Day 2 - Pine Elementary School

What a day!!!

We rode 53 glorious miles today. I saw my daughter in new and powerful ways. She is growing so quickly. Yet, is still a little girl much of the time.

We were awoken by a barking dog at 4:00 a.m. Gary (the ride leader) woke us up at 6:00. Grace was awoken by her mother throwing a pillow at her head. You have to love camping!

We had a wonderful breakfast of pancakes and sausage and were on the road. If you end a day with a long dirt ride... You start the next with long dirt ride. Grace did a wonderful job of navigating the path. Then we had a long uphill and made a turn down into Glamis. We had a nice lunch and headed out through the sand dunes. It was an amazing stretch with Grace leading the way. She is powerfully made!!

Standing at the top of the dunes and looking down Grace said, "I climbed that? It was a moment to keep in your heart. We then headed down into the Imperial Valley. This is a busy road without much of a shoulder. Grace was a terrific bike handler and cruised... With semis passing at 65 miles an hour. SCARY!

We entered the Imperial Valley and thought the worst was over... Wrong! The road was horrible. It was more of a gravelly mess than a road. We must have lost multiple filling. After a mere 5 miles of this we arrived at Pine Elementary School. Hamburgers and hotdogs were prepared by the 4H.

The kids played and had water fights until the 53 miles kicked in. It is a short 47 miles with a stop by the pool tomorrow.
